Special Classes

Music, Kim Brown weekly

The music program emphasizes the active experience of making, listening to and moving with music as the launching point to an understanding of music on a more conscious level. The children enjoy developing a basic musical awareness by singing, moving, playing rhythm instruments and discussing concepts in an environment that is encouraging and exciting.

Gymnastics, Kim Brown weekly

The gymnastics program introduces physical activity and builds motor development. The program stresses physical development in flexibility, strength, agility, endurance, balance and coordination. The elementary program not only includes basic gymnastic skills, but also games and activities involving group skills and cooperation.

Kim is a former teaching assistant at Global Montessori. We were lucky to have her return as our gymnastics teacher. She incorporates yoga for children into her curriculum when possible.

Spanish, Patricia Marein twice weekly

Spanish is offered as a foreign cultural and language experience. Children gather weekly to engage in simple conversation, such as greetings and exchanging names. The curriculum also includes singing, counting and identification of known colors and objects.

Patricia is a native Spanish speaker with a bachelor's degree in business administration. She teaches Spanish part time in several schools while raising her four children.

Art, Trudi Patterson weekly

The art program focuses on developing the child's expression of his/her own sense of creativity. The children are introduced to new varieties of art mediums and tools. Skills continue to build upon the foundation of the Montessori Art program. The children's creative work builds qualities of self-confidence and imagination. A fine arts program, which introduces famous artists and their works, is also integrated into the art program.
